The examinacion of Daniel Murphy preist taken before me Sir William Ryues knight one of the iudges of his Maiesties Court of Cheife place this 6th day of July 1642
<q> Who being examined and duely sworne to so much as concerneth others sayeth and confesseth that he was in the castle of Clongowes wood when the English army lately came before it, and that hath liued in the parish of Mainham wherein Clongowes wood stands this seauen yeares as being parish preist of the said parish, and saieth that before these troubles began for the most part he did reside and liue abroade in the said parish, but the most part of the parishoners being dispersed and gone from their homes by reason of these troubles, about Easter last he betooke himselfe for shelter to the said castle but sayeth that James Eustace the owner of the said castle was gone from the castle before this examinate came thither and being demaunded to what towne they sent for sope and salt and other such like prouision since Droheda and Naas were barred from them he saieth <r> that they had both those commodities in the castle but doth not knowe from whence it came, He denieth that he had any hand in the murder and robbory of the english man of Dunheda who was robbed and murdered by the men of that castle or that he knewe of it before it was done, but confe saieth he was at Racophy at the time when the said murder and robbory was committed and came not home till the next day but confesseth that when he did come home and had knoweledge of the fact and who were the dooers of it, yet he continued still in the castle and conversed and kept company with them, and confesseth that when the skirmish was betweene the army and the castle the examinate serued with a musket and made two shots at the army but whether he killed any he knoweth not, and in all things els agreeth with the former examinates, and and
