The Examination of Connor Donnogh Preist taken the 2d day of May June 1642 Before mee Chancellour of his Maiesties Court of Exchequer By direction of the right honnorable the Lordes Justices & Councell
Who beeing sworne & Examined saith that three dayes before Leslipp Castle was taken by the kinges Armie, hee this Examinant beeing att Leighe in Clonmaleragh there saw the Earle of Antrim passe and ride by towards Clonogawnoe, where this Examinant had beene the night before And where likewise this Examinant left the young Lord of Clanmaleragh, Collonell Roger Moore, & his eldest sonne. And this Examinant going the next night vnto Allan, hee there found certaine of the Rebells Souldiers belonging vnto Captaine Dungan, Collonell Talbott, Captaine Nangle, & Captaine Owgan. And this Examinant further saith att the same tyme there dwelt and resided in Allen, Edward Dungan his wife & ffamilie, William Owgan of the Downings & his ffamilie John Allen of the Rewes & his wife, John Sutton of the Naas, Thomas Ash of the Naas, one Moore of late Soueraigne of the said Towne, William ffitz-Gerrald of Blackhall & his wife, & Phillipp ffitz Garrald brother vnto Maurice ffitz-Garrald of Allen. And ffurther saith that the said Phillipp ffitz-Gerrald, kept att the said Maurice ffitz-Gerrald his house, with certaine persons armed. fore Souldiers, which said Souldiers, conversed and ioyned with the Souldiers or Rebells belonging vnto the

aforementioned Captaines. And alsoe saith that great numbers of Cattle of All sortes are brought out of the other partes of the Countrie into the said Island of Allen. And further saith that hee this Examinant went thence into ffingall, & att Greenock mett with William Talbott eldest sonne vnto Talbott of Robertstowne John ffinglas of Westmenstowne, his brother Redmond ffinglas, and two sonnes of Chamberlaines of Killreesk. But they the said Talbott & ffinglas parted with this Examinant the same night. And the next daie hee this Examinant we{nt} vnto Garistowne where hee remained three nights, and there mett with Captaine Trevers & three of his bretheren, together with ffifteene or sixteene men in Armes attending them, & from whence hee the said Travers, this Examinant, and the rest were sent for by Patrick Condran of Wyandstowne, where they mett with the aforementioned Talbott and ffinglas, and the said Condran told them, that hee vnderstood of the comeing of a Troope of the kings Armie, and desired them to assist him. And likewise saith that the same night ther came from the defeate att Trim vnto the said house of Wyandstowne, Collonell Brett, and Bealeing of Bealeingstowne, John Bealeing his Brother, & MrCadle. And from thence the next daie the said Companie remoued vnto Garistowne, and from thence, vnto Westmenstowne. And from thence they went vnto Bealeingstowne, & thence vnto the Castle of Baldungan, whence the said Traverse John Bealeing & John ffinglas went as they said vnto the Lord of Gormanstowne vnto Nobber, who had sent word that

himselfe would bee there the weeke following. And desired that provisions might bee made for him there. And the said Lord of Gormanstowne did send vnto the said Castle of Baldungan on Satturdaie morning last, ffoure Musketteirs, with about three pounds of Powder who likewise assured this Examinant and the rest that hee the said Lord of Gormanstowne would bee there the the next weeke And the said Musketteires acquainted him this Examinant that the said Lords Lady died of late att Allen. And lastlie this Examinant saith that att his comeing out of Clonmalerie aforesaid hee mett with certaine servants of Mr Peter Sarsfeilds who were carrying theire Maisters Goodes into Clonmalerie
