The examinacion of George Perry of Athlone Butcher of the age of about five and thirty yeares taken before vs the 20th of octobre 1643 by vertue of an order of the right honorable the Lords Justices and Counsell dated the same day and yeare.
<k> The said examinat being duely sworne and examined saith that he and his Company traveling with five Carrload of Goods viz tannd leather [ k ] wooll skins and such like things from Athlone to Dublin was were stopped on their way at kinegad in the County of westmeath vppon sunday the 15th of instant october and their goods made stay of vntill he was constrayned to give a note vnder his hand to Sir Luke ffittzGerrard knight for the payment of 3 s. for every carreloade <l> vnto him at this examinats returne from Dublin in which note it was provided by Sir Luke ffitzGerrard that this examinat should be freed for paying any further Custome at moivalle or newecastle. and yet this notwithstanding the next day this examinat traveling with the said goods to moivalle was by the Garrison there compelled to pay 12 d. for every of the said carreloads amounting to five shillings and comeing to neweCastle was there allsoe <m> compelled, to pay 18 d. fo for every of the said Carreloads. amounting in the whole to 7 s.-6 d. and the souldiers of the said Garrisons would not looke vppon nor regard, the said a note of Sir Luke ffitzGerrards, wherein he vndertooke to free the said Examinat and his the said goods from payment of any toule or custome at any of the aforesaid places.
