The Examinacion of Henry Dillon esquire taken before me this
This Examinatt saith that when the lord Maguire, and others weare aprehended heare this Examinatt was h in this Citty on the Execution of A Commission, And that Sir James Dillon the younger beinge Appointed one of the Gouernors of the County of Longford, this Examinatt went in his Company to the the said County, And beinge by him left in the Castle of Rathcline which belongs vnto the ledy Dalton with A garrison, this Examinatt continued there from the 28th of Nouember till the 23th of december, and duringe that tyme had many skirmishes with the Rebells, and tooke seauen of Them and A Captaine prisoners, and on the 23th aforesaid this Examinatt deliuered vp the said Castle to Sir James Dillon the Elder together with the said prisoners, And from thence this Examinatt, goinge home to his owne house in the County of Roscomon was taken prisoner by Brian ffarrall, this Examinatts house beinge the night before robbed by Duallagh o Hauly Teige o Conor, and others; from thence this Examin{att} was led prisoner by the said Brian ffarrall to Roscomon where he mett Con o Roircke, and burned the Towne of Roscomon and deliuered this Examinatt prisoner to the said Con o Roirck, whoe soe detained this said Examinatt till he brought him to Elfin, where there was a gener{al} Assembly of the County of Roscomon, and from thence the Said Con o Roirck was to depart to the County of Letr{im} and intended to haue convayed this Examinatt prisoner with him thither, which Hue oge o Connor vnderstandinge besoug{ht} the said Con the to leaue this Examinatt to his Custody, and he would vndertake to haue him forthcomminge which

By great perswasian he consented vnto, And soe this <a> Examinatt was detained prisoner by the said Hue oge o Conor, and brought to another generall meetinge held <x> by the said County at Ballintober; In which generall Assembly an oath by way of Couenant was Administred by the Titulary Bushop Boetius mc Kigan, and solemly sworne there in the publick Assembly by Sir Lucan Dillon, Sir Vllick Burke o Conor Don o Connor Roe; Alexander Nugent; Phillip Dowell, William Molloy, ffeoghra o fflin, Thomas Dillon brother to Sir Lucas; Teige o Connor sone to O Connor Roe; seuerall of the Kellies and diuers others whom this Examinatt doth not now remember; which oath Contained seuerall Clauses but more particularly one for the defence of the Roman Religion, and another for his Maiesties prerogatiue; At the said Assembly alsoe they appointed seuerall Collonels, and Captains in euery Barony, and whoe particularly should beseige the Castles held by the English in the County of Roscommon And appointed Sir Lucas Dillon and others to goe of A message to the Earle of Clanricard to choose him generall of Conaght. whoe weare to sett forward the wensday after this Examinats departure. At Lenght this Examinatt prevayled with Hue oge o Connor to send him away with a sufficient guard to his frends in Dillons Country, where this Examinatt expected at the house of Thomas Dillon fitzTalbott to haue furnished himself with some necessaryes, beinge formerly despoiled of all that euer he had. but missinge thereof by meanes of the burninge and pilladginge of the said Thomas formerly

This Examinatt was driuen to stay there a day or two, And in that tyme this Examinatt was present at Ballaghkirin (where Sir James Dillon the Elder beinge formerly apointed Collonell for that part of the County of Westmeath by the Earle of westmeath) did place his owne Company, and the Company of Capt Richard Dalton with some Others at the said Ballaghkirin to beseige the Castle of Athloane on that side, and the Magauli{ } and the Melaghlins on the other side the passadge towards dublin. ffrom thence this Examinatt came by seuerall dayes Jernies to Moymett, And fearinge the passadge vp to Dublin that way; this Examinatt tooke his way to Rogerston Sarsfeldston, and Gormanston, and havinge remayned there four dayes; sett forward towards Dublin, and at the bridge of nyne streames was mett with by some of Luke Netteruills company, and by them taken prisoner, and convayed to Luke Netteruill whoe havinge searched this Examinatt, and findinge that he had noe lettres to any in Dublin, suffered this Examjnatt to depart. And thence this Examinatt came to this Citty, and had in his Company since his first settinge forth in the County of Roscomon, [s] till his arriual heare one mr George dauis an English gent. And further this Examinatt saith not.
