The examinacion of Patrick Tanckard of Drogheda aged fortie yeares or thereaboutes taken the xxvijth day of May 1655 before Sir Edward Bolton knight and Thomas Dongan Esquire two of the Comittee of examinacions appoynted by the High Court of Justice for the Countie of Dublin concerning murders and massacres
The sayd examinant being duely sworne and examined sayth That on Ashe wednesday was three yeares that hee together one James Brandon hattmaker and this <A> examinant going together from Dublin to Drogheda they mett by the way with one Nicholas Russell of Collinston in the County of Dublin gent vpon the land of Collinston aforesayd And the sayd James Brandon having a sword in his hand the sayd Russell tould him it was dangerous for him to have take that sword with him in the way where he was then to travell, and desired him to leave the sword with him promising that he would keepe it for him, and deliver the same agayne whensoever the sayd James would send or come for it, for which condicion the sayd James delivered the sayd sword vnto the sayd Russell, and went on his iorney with this examinant to Drogheda aforesayd And being there a whyle he sent fower severall tymes to the sayd Russell for his sayd sword But he refused to send the sword vnto him, wherevpon this examinant sayth That, the sayd James Brandon went from Drogheda to the sayd <B> Russell for his sayd sword to Collinston aforesayd and this examinant sayth that the sayd James was murdred there on all Hallowne day then following as the examinant credibly heard
