The examinacion of James Dowlin of Shanganagh in the County of Dublin laborer taken before vs Sir Gerrard Lowther knight and Thomas Dongan Esquire the last day of December in the yeare of our lord God 1652 by vertue of the Commission of the Right honorable the Comissioners for the Parliament of England for the affayres of Ireland bearing date at Dublin the xxvijth of November in the yeare aforesayd authorising vs and others or any one or more of vs (amongst other thinges) to take examinacions of the Massacres Murthers and Robberies which have been Committed vpon the English and Protestantes in Ireland &c
The sayd examinant being of the age of ffortie yeares or neere theraboutes and being duely sworn vpon the holy evangelistes and examined <A> deposeth and sayth vpon his oath, That he dwelling at Ballygarny in the County of Wickloe vnder Robert Kennedy of the same Esquire and that about November 1641 the sayd Mr Kennedy being then forced to leave his howse and fly for safety to Dublin by reason of the Rebellion, ther hapned soone after the sayd Mr Kennedy fledd away from his sayd howse that one Nathaniell Snapp then servant vnto Mr Silvester Kennedy sonn vnto the sayd Robert and one John Lyssin sometymes servant and Sheapheard vnto the Earle of Meath being both English men and Protestantes and indevoring to drive som Cattle of the sayd Mr Silvester Kennedies out of that County of Wickloe to Dublin were <B> taken and apprehended by some of Collonell Luke Toole (being soe Called then) his souldiers whoe brought vnto them prisoners vnto the sayd Luke into the said Hall of Ballygarny aforesayd the sayd Luke being then there and having

having not long before rebelliously taken possession of the sayd Mr <C> Robert Kennedies howse and land of Ballygarny aforesayd, And the examinant sayth that the sayd Nathaniel and John being were being brought before the sayd Luke in the sayd Hall of Ballygarny he commaunded them to be taken forth into the Towne of Ballygarny and there to being be hanged vpon a tree vntill they were both deade as somme of the sayd lukes souldiers whoe hanged the sayd parties tould this examinant, And alsoe tould this examinant that they did hang them by the Comaund and direction of the sayd Luke Toole, And this examinant further sayth that after the sayd Nathaniel and John were hanged as aforsayd that he his this examinant came to the place where they were so hanged, and did help to bury them And this examinant further sayth not
