The Examinacion of Jeremiah Weauer of Captain John ffrancks Troope against the said Edward Butler of Vrlinford Esquire tak{en} before me vs upon oath the 31th of January 1652
Saith that the said Edward Butler when hee was apprehend{ed} by this deponent made resistance and lay hands one Captain Hygates seriant Carbine and culled to some Irish officers then with him to ass assist him, sayinge will yow leaue me soe, they asked him for Armes, he denied to haue any but a knife, but beinge serched by mee I found a maddoge or a skeane with the haft in his hand, and the blade in the sheath, the said Edward Butler promised Me one hundred pown{des} to runn away with him for Spaine, and promised to make me a Captain; that the said Edward But{ler} desired to be shott by me, and the others that apprehended him, for that hee knew hee should be hanged if hee were brought to Kilkenny and further saith that he feared nothinge but false Informacion
