The Examination of Gerrott Birne who liued in Kilkenye within a muskett shott to Castletowne in the Barrony of Slemarrigigh in the Queens Countie, and now liuing at Castlerebin in the Countie of Kildare, aged about 64 yeares or thereabouts taken vpon oath the 28th of Octo. 1652
The said Examinate being duely sworne and examined saith that in the yeare 1641 being the first yeare of the Rebellion she this Examinates daughter passing by chance thorough the towne of Castletowne o Moy in the Queens Countie in the Barrony of Slemarrigigh mett the Company of one Capt. Vmphrie Keuenagh his foote Company hangeing a poore man and his wife called Tanton and three of their children in respect they were English, and his said said daughter comeing home weeping and lamenting that Crueltie, tould the same to this deponent and all his familie, that th and further saith that the said Capt did then Quarter in the said towne of Castletowne when the said parties were soe Executed, and that, that time the Irish lay siege to the Garrison of Ballylinan and further saith not.
