The examinacion of Diermott mc Keigan of Lukan in the Countie of Dublin yeoman aged twenty five yeares or therabouts taken the xvjth day of August 1653 before Colonell Thomas Herbert and Thomas Dancer Esquire two of the Comittee appoynted by the High Court of Justice sitting at Dublin for taking examinacions of Massacres and Murthers &c
Whoe being duely sworn and examined deposeth and sayth That on Wednesday last being at Lawrence he mett with James Dalton of Mooreton at the ffayer of Palmerston and havinge speech with him concerning the Murther of Mr Edmund Dalton <A> This examinant told the sayd James that one John Magawly of Ballyloghloe in the County of Westmeath Sheapheard vnto Henry Magawly of the same gent was the man that put the rope about the neck of the sayd Edmund Dalton and that hanged him vntill he was deade, And the examinant sayth that he then lykewyse told the sayd James that there were then two more in the sayd John Magawlies companny which did help him to committ the sayd Murther whose names he could not Learne And being demaunded whether he knewe, what he sayd of the sayd Murther vnto the sayd James Dalton, of his owne knowledg, or not, [ ] He sayth he knewe nothing thereof (then, or since) of his owne knowledg, But sayth that [ ] all that he hath spoken as afores{aid} concerning the sayd John Magawly towching the Murther of the sayd Mr Edmund Dalton he had it wholy by relacion from one Katheryn nyn Irr wyfe vnto Diermott Duffe Knowlan Carpenter, which Katherin told him the same as in this his examinacion he hath declared And the examinant further sayth not.
