The examinacion of Peter Hooper of Passage in the County of waterford gent aged about forty two yeares taken vpon oath on the behalfe of the Comonwealth Concerning James Lewes of the Graiges in the County of wexford gent vpon the Interrogatoryes annexed to the Commission of enquiry
<To the 1st Inter> The examinant Deposeth and saith that he well knoweth the said James Lewes, for that the said James his habitacion at Graiges is neere the forte of Duncannon wherein the deponent kept for diuers yeares & saith that the said James dwelt at Graiges aforesaid in the County <q> of Wexford in the Irish quarters the whole time of the rebellyon from whence he did not onely remooue but fortified the same & kept men therein in opposicion to the english the deponents cause of knowledge is hereafter ensueth
<To the 2d> Hee cannot depose
<To the 3 & 4th> The deponent saith that the said James did not onely Contribute his owne person in Armes, but seauerall men hee kept in Armes, as well within his howse as without for carrying on the rebellyon, & resisting the english to his power, This deponents cause of knowledge is for that the deponent hath been of and amongst seauerall partyes of the english that issued out of the said fort <r> & went to the said Lowes his howse in the seacond yeare of the warre, from whereinto the said english were not onely [ ] denyed entrance but had Diuers shot made against them from the howse & the Orchard thereunto adjoyning, And further saith that the deponent with a partie out of the said forte hauing notice or intelligence of a Number of cattle to that did lye about wickens crosse about a quarter of a mile distant from the Graiges, went thither & with intent to haue brought the said cattle to the forte for the releife thereof, when & whither the said James Lewe{s} Armed with an halfe pike & a great Number of men after him came, & made about fortie

shots against the english party but killed none of them, but and forced the said party to departe without the said cattle, And saith that the said James Lowes his brother (whose Name the deponent knoweth not) being in Armes amongst the Company that came with the said James Lowes was killed by the english party at the time & in the manner aforesaid. And further Cannot depose &c
