The Examinacion of William Stafford gent taken vpon oath on the behalfe of the Comonwealth Concerning Nicholas Hay of Wexford in the County of Wexford Alderman deceased
<To the 1st Interr> The Examinant Deposeth and saith that the said Nicholas Hay liued in wexford then & sometime since in the Irish quarters the first yeare & during the warre till the said towne was <q> stormed & taken by the lord generall Cromwells Armie and did not remooue thence into the english quarters, as english and protestants Inhabiting, in & neere wexford did but could not soe remooue without losse of his estate as the deponent conceiueth
<To the 2d Interr> He cannot depose
<To the 3d Interr> The deponent saith that he beleiues that the said Nicholas Hay did contribute his proporcion of all publicque Leuyes for aduancing the Irish cause and maintaining the <r> forces raysed for opposing the english the said first yeare and Sithence.
<To the 4th Interr> The Examinant saith that he beleiueth that the said Nicholas was an actor & abetter in the warre against the english the <s> said first yeare and since & was actually in Armes with parte of a foote company vnder his comand against Duncannon forte
<To the 5th Interr> The deponent saith that the said Nicholas was frequently at publicque meetings of the Irish at wexford & elsewhere in order to the carrying on the Irish cause against <t> the english, as well the said first yeare as Sithence to the deponents personall knowledge
<To the 6th Interr> The examinant deposeth that the said Nicholas was a member of the generall nationall assemblie, in or about the yeare 1646: & soe had his vote in choosing such as <u> haue been of the Supreame councell & other officers both Civill and millitary for defence of the Irish cause against the english.
<To the 7th Interr> The deponent saith that he is confident that the said Nicholas <w> Hay did take the oath of associacion as others of the generall assembly did

<To the 9th Interr> The deponent saith that the said Nicholas was Captaine of a foote Company & a member of the generall assembly as this <x> Examinant hath more at lardge deposed in answeare to the 4th & 6th Interrogatoryes to which he refferreth himselfe
<To the 10 Inter> The deponent saith that Gerrald Hay son & heyre to the said Nicholas was & acted, in or about the yeare 1647 as a Captaine of foote in the guarrisson of wexford for the defence thereof in opposicion to the english, & there was in <y> Actuall Armes at the storming & taking thereof by the Lord generall Cromwells Armie: And that afterwardes the said Gerrald went into Duncannon forte then in the Irish possession, where he remained till where he was when the same was surrendered to the Lord generall Cromwells partie: And the deponent is confident that the said Gerrald did take the oath of associacion being a generall thing: And further saith that the said Gerrald was Countenanced & Cherished by his said father Nicholas Hay till the said Nicholas was killed were by the english Armie at their taking of wexford

<To the 13 Inter> The examinant deposeth that he verily beleiueth that the said Nicholas held corresponcy and had Comerce & society <z> with persons that Comitted plundradge & outrages on the english and protestants the first yeare of the warre, and further saith not &c
