John Casy of the old ffordge nere Tallowe aged 54 yeares or thereabouts beinge duely sworne vpon the holy Evangelist and examined deposeth and sayth that on shrove tusday in the yeare 1641 this deponent goeinge with a lettre from David Barry sonne to John Barry of <A> Dongorney he beinge att Coalishey, to Mr Thomas Butler, then the sayde Butler was att Ballyanker with Collonell Captain Edmond ffennell and severall others of the Irish Rebells and after this deponent had deliuered to the sayde Butler his letre he Comanded this deponent to looke into his waggon and that he did see Mr Edward Crorker and fowre other Englishmen as prysoners in the Custody of the sayd Rebells and that the said ffennell and the sayde Thomas Buttler & others where then present and did see see the fowre English men hanged vpon a gate in this deponent prese{nce} the said ffennell standinge by with a pistoll in his hand vntill they were strangled & deade and that presently after he heard Mr Edward Croker then a prysoner as aforesaid profer vnto a Certayne money att the least twenty pounds for his life but the said ffennell made annswer that if he would giue a hundred pounds he should not haue his life because he was as then a [ ] kinsman to Captain Croker of Capoquin but should haue his Choyce either to be hanged or shott to death, wherevpon the said Croker made Choice to be shott to death & the [ ] Captain ffennell Called a souldier of his partie and they both went with the sayde Croker (haueinge his hands tyed behynd his backe) & putt him vpp against a ditch and there shott him to death in the presence of this deponent And his Cause of knowledge is for that he was present and did see and heare what he hath deposed of to be true
