The examination of Teige Oge McTeige McDaniell Carthy of Templebryan ta ke aboute 40 yeares of Age: taken the twentyeth of September 1652
Sayeth That about Easter 1642: he then being at home with his wife neare Gourtbracke (where John McTeige alias McTeige with the rest of his people lay to keepe in the Garrison of Castelhaven) being vpon the Centry with one William Leagh Regane, they discouer’d some goods & English people comeing along towards Castelhaven, and sett vp the cry; wherevpon those that were of the Convoy (as soone as this Examinantt & the other sett vp the crye) threw downe the goods & tooke some of it with them & run away, And those that were Convoyed (vizt) <A> John fford & his sonne & their wiues & Children made towards the Castell (all but the old man, who turned backe & run after one of the Convoy one dearmod O Leary (as he this Examinantt was told afterwards) for some money which he the said John fford had deliuered to the said dearmond: And this examinantt further sayeth, that he & the said Regane came to the said John fford, And William that the said Regane was goeing to kill him with his pike, And this Examinantt sayeth, that he perswaded the said Regane not to kill such an old man, that had noe Armes, but he would not be perswaded, but dr drew this Examinatts sword & killed the said John fford: And this Examinantt further sayeth, that Tho: McKnougher (one of the Convoy) came with Teige O downy’s orders (as he conceiues) to this Examinatts brothers for some goods of the said fords which his said Brother had taken from the said Thomas McKnougher as they were runing away: which were deliuered accordingly: And further sayeth not./.
