The examinacion of Lieutenant Theophilus Cary of Inshigaggin in the Countie of Corke whoe being sworne & examined deposeth That about twelve months since there being a speech that some Comissioners should be sent downe to the County of Corke or otherwise impowred to take Examinacions of witnesses concerning murthers & Cruelties comitted by the Irish Rebells vpon the Englishe, One Mr Richard Hawes of Bandonbridg <A> in the County of Cork the n told & aver r ed vnto him this deponent at Carrigroghan near the Citty of Corke of an English woman that about the first yere of the present Rebellion was murthered at one mcDaniells dore in the Barrony of Barrets Barrets & that shee was there run through with a spitt either by him or some of his servants: And hath credibly heard & beleeveth nothing more then that one William Woods & his sonn in lawe William Tute of kilhominy in the County of Corke were robbed & after carried away & murthered by some of the Lord of Muskeryes servants souldiers. And he this deponent being at that tyme vpon the guard of killigroghan had notice of the robbery, & had pursued the parties about fowre myles, but his party being weake & they goeing by boggy & strang wayes through the Lord of Muskery (a known enemys, Country: & the parties pursued being gone away too long before, the deponent and his party desisted & went back againe: But t there was noe report more Common, & (as he verely thincks, more true; that then that the said Woods & Tute were then hanged to death by the Lord of Muskeries souldiers for none neither the deponent no r any of the frends of the said Woods & Tute could <B> ever see them since, And the Lord of Muskry sole Comander of the forcs in those parts: And this deponent hath saith that although he hath seen none of the Cruelties of the [ ] Charles mc Carty Reogh exercised vpon the English since the Rebellion began yet the report was Comon that he was & hath been a bloodie man & a distroyer of the Cuntrie English in Carbery where he Lived in that tyme & too well knoweth that he kn much manifested his disaffection to divers of his English neighbours whoe hee much greatly vexed & oppressed by cawseles indictments suits & trobles before the Rebellion began
