The Examinacion of Donnough Mc Keogh of Loghier in the County of Lymerick husbandman aged thirty six yeres or thereabouts on the part & behalfe o f the State touching the murder r of Gregory being duly sworne vpon the Thorne and Guillepatrick O Duran, being duly sworne vpon the holy Evangeliste & examined sayeth as followeth
That this in March the Munday next after St Patricks day in 1641 John Lacy fiz Piers then of Brofe in the Countie of Lymericke Esquire did with a partie of horse & foote <A> of which he the said Lacy was Comaunder in Chiefe & whereof of which partie this Examinante was one march to Loghurr aforesaid where whither Comeing to in a Body stood on a hill on the west side of the Castle of Logh & perceaueing two men vizt Gregorie Thorne & Gullapatricke o Duran goeing from the said Logh to Gransagh the said John Lacy Comaunded 15en of the said partie to goe & Examyn what the said twoe were & if English to apprehend them & bringe them to him, of which partie of 15en this Examinante was, & Comaunded by John oge Lacy the said John Lacyes sonn & accordingly the said partie of 15en went & apprehended the said twoe men & brought them to the said John Lacy thelder to Broffe aforesaid whoe went before the returne of the said partie of 15th with his partie to Broffe whoe vppon the Examinacon of the said prisoners gaue order to putt them in stockes where they were for 24 houres & afterwards sent them <B> to Kilmallocke to the Soueraigne who imediatly imprisoned them & saye that the he this Examinante was one of the three sent alonge with the prisoners said Thorne & o Durane to Kilmalocke where they continued for a seaven night vntill the said John Lacy the Elder [ ] sent the Constable of Broffe this Examinant & one More to the said Soueraigne for the said prisoners, to what end this Examinant did not know, wherevppon the said Prisoners were brought to Broffe backe againe where they wered Layed in stockes by order of the said John Lacy thelder within owne Kitchin where they were for 24 houres More & the said John being vppon departeing Broof to AthLagagh gave order to this <C> Examinant John o Cullaine & more others to hange the said prisoners & to haue them hanged before his returne to Broofe againe in order where vnto this Examinant & others hanged the said two did with the assistance of others Execute the said prisoners And this Examinant further sayeth that the said John Lacy thelder did at his goeing said departinge from Broffe specially Commaund that the then Constable & John Phillipp o Cullane the said John o Cullan who was the said Lacy { } severall others of the towne to see the said two prisoners hanged before his returne as aforesaid & that the said Phillipp o Cullan & John o Cullane did, before the said prisoners where the day that the said prisoners where Executed in order to their Execucion bend their hands with gadds & did help to guard the said prisoners to the place of Execution & there stay & see them hanged accordinge to the said Lacyes Comaund & order who was then out of the towne but returned & imediatly of the same day after the Execution
