The Examinacion of Edward Elwood Decembr is Novembris 23o: 1652
<A> Saith that hee liued at a place called Knocknageihes with his Mother in Lawe beinge fformerly Expulsed from his fformer habitacion by the Irishe, And uppon ffriday before the murder at Shrewel which was one Sunday ffolloweing, that heareinge that the Lord of Mayo with diuers others weare comeinge neare the towne to a place called Caherlisnavally with the Englishe that weare then to bee Conveyed by the Lo: of Mayo, And heareing that his vncl{le} Henrye Bringhurst was a Moingest the Rest of the Englishe desired to speake with him privattly, whervppon the said Bringhurst heareinge thereof staid till the Reare of the Conveyed weare past, And then this deponant with weepinge teares askt of his vnkclle what [ ] course, hee should take or whether hee should goe. A Longe with him or noe to Gallwaye, but { } deponant noe, And that if they went safely to Galw{ } that hee would send for him to ffollowe him,
And further hee saith that hee sawe seuerall persones there one { } with the Lord of Mayo, as Sir Tibott Bourke Tibott Rea{gh} <B> Myles Bourke ffitts dauid Edmond Bourke of Lonhertane wh{ } More, And allsoe saith that hee did see manye partyes of { } there which weare as hee heard intended for the Convoyeinge of the { } to Gallwaye, And as hee remembereth saw William Bourke of Ba{ }hine & his brother Edmond with a Companye appoynted for the { } And allsoe this Examinent saith that hee hard one Sundaye follo{wing} <C> that all the Englishe weare killed, And that at night Tibb{ } Reahe Bourke. And Edmund Bourke of Lanhartane came from Castlehacken { } To this deponants mother in Law her house, And there beinge at supper came in a talle Blacke mann whoe said hee liued in the sayd Country; And there was bragging of the paines hee had taken with killinge of the Englishe at Shrowle And haveing a darte

in his hand a darte beeinge all to bee smeared with bloud, saide that hee hee hadd one englishe man More, yett to kill
which beeinge towld vnto the said Tibbott Bourke hee stoode vpp vpp, And routed that Mann out of the house for ffeare hee should haue offerred to kill this deponantt
And ffurther saith that there is nowe liueing one Murtah duffe macrishin which were liueth with Melahline O Connor of Tuam that with dainger of his life Escaped that Murder And then liued with Mr. Henrye Bringhurst
And lastlye this Examinant saith that he hard seuerall times since that those partyes whoem hee gaue a list of to the Comissioners of Reuenue weare there that daye And that most of them weares actors in that Murther And further saith not
