The examinacion of Mary Gardener alias Dowd, taken before two of the Commissioners of Reuennue vizt Captain Charles Holcroft & Mr John Eyre on the 26o 9bris 1652 Aged 38 yeares or thereabouts
Saith That in the begining of this rebellion <A> she liued within three myle of Roserk, and being preyed by Thibbott reagh Burke fitz Olyuerus and James McDonnell, sh e came to Roserke And at which tyme her brother Pa: Dowd came to her house to secure her person & goods, but the said Patrick was forced away by the McAndrews who ioyned with the said Thibbott Teig reagh Dowd And saith that at that tyme her said Brother was purposed to goe to the Moyne heareing that the said Moyne was to be prayed it being his intention to take his share as much of the plunder there, but vnderstanding of the said Thibbott s resolucion Teige [ his ] resolution he stayd fo at Roserk for the security of his sisters goods, And further saith saith that Therlogh McDonnell

<C> Edmond Kelly, and Austen McDonnell, were of the convaye {that} was sent with Mrs Gardener, and Mr Walker from Roserke, and saith that Mr s Gar her cause of knowledge being that Mrs Gardener her Mother in law, who was afterwards Murthered and her sister Gardener wife to a horseman trooper now serueing in the Lord Presidents Troope told her the same, and that her said Mother in law & sister gaue the said Convay theire cloathes to saue them from bett being slayne by those that murthered Mr Walker, which convay was present This examinate asked her sister therevppon what the reason was that the said Convaye did not saue the said Walkers life and his mans life, to whome she answeared that they stood by when the said Men were slayn slaine, and did not regard it and that if she <D> had not giuen them her ring and her cloathes they would haue slayne her alsoe

And she further saith that there were one William Bocannon, with his family, and adherents in number sixteene who liued formerly in Killallo) were killed at Ballyskiery where Pierce Barrett liued by one Walter Pursell a Munster man and others it being two yeares in the warr the said Bocannon & his family haueing turned Papists for the safeguard of there liues
