<(2)> The Examination of Owen Roe mc Keene taken before vs George Talbotts and Roger Lyndon Esquires at Carrickfergus the 5th of May 1653
Who saith that soone after the Rebellion broke out and within two dayes after Tanderagee was surprised, the cheife <A> of the Henlons whose names hee remembereth not, with a great number of the Irish of those parts, and in and about Clenbrazell gathered together with all such Armes, they could in soe short tyme finde out in the Country and encamped themselues within less than a mile to Lurgan, & the next day in the afternoone, entered the Towne of Lurgan and burnt the same and the next day, tooke Sir William Brumlowes house or Castle, (there being then there with them Toole Mc Rory Mc Can) vpon promise of quarter and to goe away without preiudice, yet the said Toole, sent Sir William to Ardmagh prissoner, and from thence by further orders, hee was sent to dungannon prisson. And sath that that same euening after they had burnt the Lurgan The said partie dispeosed themselues, by direction of the said Toole, into all the next aiacent quarters thereabouts to plunder and bring to the Camp or Randivoues, all the English mens Cattle and goods, and that through the disorder of those soe imployed, they brought in this Examinentts Cowes where vpon the next morning hee repayred to the Lurgan to seeke after his Cattell, but could not obtaine of them more than one Cow, and a garron. And saith, that hee saw at his comming to towne, onely two men lying dead strip it stript, the one of them was John Dauis, the other hee Knew not, nor <B> who killed them. Hee saith saith hee had deliuered him presently after his comeing, a muskett, which hee saith was taken from him againe presently after they had taken the said Castle from Sir Will Brumlowe who therevpon returned home. Hee saith hee knew Henry O Gull - and his father and his brothers, but saw none of them then at Lurgan, but saith that 2 or 3 dayes after the Towne was burnt, hee saw the said Henry O Gull - about a mile and a halfe from Lurgan & in his Company his ffather and two brothers & Robert Peirson who was cutt in the head or shoulder with a sword by one Hugh og Mc Can, one of the Camp. And further sayth not
