<A> The Examinacion of Donnell ô Cahan of Island McAllen in the parish of Billy in the County of Antrim Gent: taken before vs the said 14th day of March 1652
<A> Who being duely examined saith That he heard by common Report that James McColl McDonnell now prisoner at Carrickfergus Allester McColl McDonnell & Tirlagh oge ô Cahan where the Cheife plotters & Actors of the Murder at Portnaw committed vpon the Brittish a little after Christmas in the yeare 1641 That after that Murder the Irish heareing of the newes were flying too & fro, lest the Scotch should fall vpon them & revenge that Murder & that the Irish heareing that the Scotts had kill’d many Irish in the upper & lower Claneboyes they durst not trust one another, And this Examinant further saith That vpon the Irish scattering here & there James McColl McDonnell & Man [ ] us roe ô Cahan & others who were at Portnaw & came over the Bann after that Murder made proclamacion through the Roote as they marched into & through the same That all the Irish should come & ioyne with them or else they would take all they had from them & make them & the Scotts suffer a like That by Orders from James McColl McDonnell & Allester McColl he <B> this Examinant & other the Gentlemen of the Countrey were drawne together to be keepeing in & besiege the Brittish Garrison in the house of Ballentoy takeing their turnes therein Tirlagh oge ô Cahan being Chiefe Commander of the forces which came against Ballentoy That he was present when he heard the said James McColl give command vnto Gillduffe ô Cahan to assault the Church of Ballentoy wherein the Brittish were Sheltered & to Daniell grome mcAllester to enter the Street of the Towne of Ballentoy And this Examinant further saith That he hath heard That diverse of the Brittish were murdered at Ballyluske Carnkirrin Ballycastle the Saltpanns & others places in the Barony of Cary but by whom he knowes not And further he saith not
