The Examinacion & Deposision of William Macogen of Killmakeved in the Parrish of Kilfodd & County of Antrym, Aged thirtie fiue yeares or thereabouts, taken before vs this 19th of Aprill: 1653
Who sayth that in the first yeare of the Rebellion William Magogen ffather to this Examinate liued in the Parrish of Bellykooshen neare temple Pattricke, and that aboute twenty dayes before Candlemas in the yeare aforesaid, Capten Lynsey with a troope of horse Came over the Band & quartered att Donedrey Bridge where severall Irish people were slaine by them, and that some of that troope Came to the house of this Examinates ffather the first night the Came to their Quarters as aforesayd, and kild this Examinates sister & wounded seuerall others, att which tyme William Magogen this Examinates ffather being wounded run to Castle Norton in Temple Pattricke for safety where this Examinate was then a souldier vnder, the Comand of Capten Vpton, whome hee acquainted with his fathers Condicion, wherevpon Capten Vpton gaue a Charge to Allexander McOwen that hee should take this Examinates ffather & Mother to his house & to keepe them in safety And that hee the saide Allexander McOwen did accordingly take them to his house & further this Examinate sayth that aboute three nights after, James Morrison & Allexander: Gourdon came to the said Allexander McOwens house, & with an Axe murthered this Examinats ffather & Mother, and that the said James Morrisson now Liueth in or neare Carrickfergus & is by Trade a Sadler, and, that the sayd Allexander Roger Gourden Liueth aboute Maine watter, And:further this Examinate saith, that the Cause of his knowledge of this fact is that Allexander McOwen aforesaid tould him that hee would testifie it to bee true, alsoe, his sone namely Andrew McOwen: & Pattricke McBeagh who was then servant to the sayd Allexander McOwen: who were present in the place when the murther was Comitted & further sayth not
