Examinacions taken befor me Oliuer fitz Gerrald Esquire one of his maiesties Justices of the peace & of the Councell of the said County the 20th of Jan. 1641
Captain Rowry fferrall being duelie sworne & examined sayth that one John Reynolds of the County of Leytrim gent came to the sieg of longford of purpose to reueng an ould quarrell he had against Thomas Trafford {mi}nister whoe did formerly beate & abuse the said Reynolds, & that Reynolds being noe natiue of the said County master vnder the Comand of any Captain then & there employed did acknowlegde that he did attend the campe to kill the said Reynolds, and that when the said Trafford & the rest of the warderers yeeldeld the castle of Longford, and that foure of the Capteins went into the house, & the other <A> fiue Captains wayted at the doare of the Bawen to barr the entrie of the soldiers & the warderers came foorth & weare appointed for there safetie to staye at Robart Pettitt his house, whether Captain Roger Nangle did safelie conuey them, & Ca deliuered them ouer vnto Capten Richard fferrall <3> of Clanbaylly whom they did choose to protect them, & whoe vndertooke there protection & Donoch boye fferrall of Leytrim being vnder the Comand of Captain Miroch mc Edmund fferrall did stripp the warderers of there cloathes expulsed them out of the said house & then the said John <B> Reynolds begunn with the slaughter & gaue a thrust with his sword into the midle of the bodie of the said Trafford & runn him through & afterwards one fferrall mc Manus og an other soldier of the said Captain Moroch his companie did cutt off the said Trafford his heade whoe was not then killed with the first thrust. And further this examinant sayth that Shane mc Lorayne one of Captain ffaghna mc ffergus his companie did with a poale axe or some weapon lyke a poale axe butcher without any mercie the rest of the warderers & the said fferrall mc Manus did assist him in that cruel slaughter & one Gillernow mc donogh an other of the said Captain Moroch mc Edmond fferrall his companie was an actor of that woorke & further he sayth that one Laneallin Nugent & Cormock mc herbert fferrall twoe of the said Captain ffaghna mc ffergus his companie did healp the pulling <C> of the cloathes of the said warderers befor they weare killed & further sayth that this examinant was in d & Captain Cormock fferrall & Captain Roger fferr Nangle weare in greate danger of there liues in conueying the said warderers into the said house & rescueing of them & others from the said murthrers & further sayth that James mc Shane one of the said Captain ffergus his companie gaue a thrust with a hulberd vnto Thomas Alien one of the said warderers & threw him into the riuer & further sayth not.
