The Examination of Connor ô Boyle taken this 20th day of May 1653 att Athlone Sayeth.
That this Examinant never was a soldier, saue onely in first yeere of the <A> warre being forced thereunto by Captain Brabson; That hee Laid downe armes at the time of the Cessation at Castle Coote; That this Examinant seuerall times during his being in armes was commanded to keep passes neere Athlone, & particularly at one time when a certaine warrener was killed about Cranagh bridge neere the Cunny warren, but by whome this Examinant knoweth not, hee this Examinant at that time standing Sentry; And further sayeth, That when This Examinant saw horse & foot of the English party coming from Athlone, hee this Examinant then quitted his Sentry post & betooke himselfe to his party, where this Examinant found the aforesaid warrener killed, & a woman also killed as this Examinant thinketh, that was wife to one Henry a Collyer; And this Examinant further sayeth, That at his this Exam{i}nants coming up unto his said party, The said Henry the Collye{r} was defending himself, who seing this Examinant ranne towards him, whome This Examinant receiued into his armes, then giuing unto the said Collyer quarters; being formerly acquainted with him Hee further sayth That the said Collye{r} was camped by that party about foure mile from the place towards Balinnaslow, where hee the said Collyer was killed by one Richa{rd} <B> Bourke the then Commander of the aforesaid party; Hee further sa{yeth} that the aforesaid warrener that was killed had noe other armes then a lon{g} pike, but whether the same were poynted with steele [ ] or iron this Ex{ami}nant knoweth not; And further sayeth that Henry the Collyer had onely a quarter staffe;
