The Examination of William Malone, taken the xxiiiith day of March 1641, Before mee Chancellor of his Maiesties Court of Exchequer & one of his Maiesties Justices of the Peace for the County of Dublin By direction of the right honnorable the Lords Justices and Councell.
Who beeing Examined & sworne vnto soe much of this his Examination as concerneth others, saith, that by Summons of the Sheriffe of the Countie of Meath, hee this Examinant, and a Neighbour of his one Patrick Brimingham of the Corballies, went towards Duleeke being the place appointed by the said Sheriffe for him this Examinant & his said Neighbour to bee att: But the meeteing the said Lordes and Gentrie going vnto the Hill of Croftie, hee this Examinant and his said neighbour{s} likewise accompanied them thither, where an agreement was made betweene the said Lordes and the Northern Rebells, But what the effect thereof was hee this Examinant beeing remote could not heare. And beeing demand{ed} what Lordes & gentlemen were then present, saith, that to his best remembrance hee there saw the Earle of ffingall, the Lord of Gormanston, the Lord Netterfeil{d}, the Lord of Slane, and the Lord of Trimbleston, Sir Richard Barnwall Barronett, Darcie of Plattin, James Bath of Athcarne, Patrick Barnwall of Kilbre{w} Edward Dowdall of Moncketowne, Nicholas Dowdall

of Garrattston, Patrick Brimingham of the Corballies, and a multitude of others, whom hee this Examinant cannot call to minde. And of the Northeren Rebells Coll McMahowne, Roger Moore, Hugh Birne, and Arthur ffox. And this Examinant saith that as soone as hee saw the aforesaid Lordes and the said Northeren Rebells alight from theire horses, and goe aside to discourse together, hee this Examinant and his Neighbour Mr Brimingham rode awaie towards theire owne houses. And further saith, that the next meeteing hee this Examinant was present att, was att the hill of Tarragh, where were nominated as hee remembers, the Earle of ffingall, the Lord of Gormanston, the Lord of Slane, the Lord of Trimbleston, Sir Richard Barnwall Barronet, Sir William Hill knight, Sir Luke ffitz-Garrald knight, James ffleming of Stowholmock, Darcie of Plattin, and Wesley of the Dingan, to ouersee the Gouerment of the Countrie, who were to meete euerie Wensdaie <x> weekelie. Att which tyme the said Earle of ffingall was appointed Gennerall of the horse, and the Lord of Gormanston Gennerall of the ffoot. And this Examinant likewise saith hee was present in the Church of Tarragh, when the said Earle of ffingall nominated for Captaines out of the Barronie of Skreene & dese, George Pluncket a Brother of his Lordships, Lawrance Dowdall of Athlumney, Patrick Cusack of Gerraldston, Hugh Hussey, eldest sonne vnto the Baron of Galtrim, and Edward Hussey of

Mulhussey. And further saith that hee this Examinant was warned by warrant from the Earle of ffingall to bring a horse vnto the said Hill of Tarragh att a certaine daie. Att which tyme and place there was a Proclamation made by command likewise of the said Earle, that by Satturdaie then next following euerie man should (vpon paine of Death) bring his horses to the place aforesaid. where this Examinant according to appointment brought a man and a horse to attend the said Earle, but hee himselfe returned vnto his owne house, and his horseman from Killsalachan within ffoure or ffiue daies after, and neuer was there since. And this Examinant further saith that hee was likewise present att annother Gennerall meeteing of the Lordes & Gentrie aforesaid, held vpon the said Hill of Croftie when and where hee heard the Lord of Gormanston speake of sincking of a Merchants shipp then in the harbour of Drogheda to stopp the comeing in of any releife vnto the Garrison there. And lastlie this Examinant saith that of the English or Brittish liueing neare him this Examinant, there was onelie one Scottish man a Minister, who was robbed of his Goodes by the adioyning Neighbours, But not by one of his this Examinants Tennants.
