The examjnation of Randall Dumvil of Late of Belfast in the County of Antrim Gent, aged 30 yeares or thereabouts taken vppon before the Right honorable James Earle of Roscomon and Sir James Ware knight &c vppon oath ministerd by the Clerk of the Councell by direccion of the right honorable the Lord Lieutenant & Councell the 3 day of June 1644
<c> The said Randall Dumvil beeing duly sworne and examjned saith that the Regiment comanded by Lieutenant Collonell Cambell which was sent out of Ireland into Scotland about 3 monthes agoe was recruited newly before their going, with many Irish, many of them beeing taken out of prison, where they lay for criminal offences as being of the Irish partie fforces others of them taken from shippboard where they had been putt to as they were going on shippboard to the end to bee carried <d> to the Indies, Hee further saith that the generall voice in these parts of Vlster is, that those Regiments of the Scottish forces which yet remaine in this Kingdome have been newly recruited, and that they tooke on Scotts & Irish, Rebells without distinction of any though they

<e> they were had been formerly in Rebellion, to recruit their Regiments and those soe taken on by them provided for in the Regiments as the rest are, Hee also saith that hee hath heard some amongst the Scotts say that they conceived that they had a considerable partie at Dublin that were well affected to their wayes Hee <f> saith that now they take on men promiscuously for recruiting their Regiments without examining of what Cuntry or nation or religion they are soe as they take the Covenant
