Charles by the grace of God King of England Scotland ffrance and Ireland defender of the faith &c To our welbeloved Henry Jones Deane of Kilmore Roger Puttock William Hitchcock Randall Adams John Sterne William Aldrich Henry Brereton & John Watson Clarkes greeting Whereas divers wicked & disloyall people have lately risen in armes in divers partes of this kingdome and have robbed and spoyled many of our good subjectes brittish and protestantes: Whoe have beene departed from their setled habitacions and scattered in most lamentable manner and many others have beene deprived of their landes rentes goodes & chattells: And forasmuch as it is needfull to take due examinacion concerning the same Knowe yee that wee reposeing speciall trust and Confidence in your fidelities care and provident Circumspection Have nominated and appointed you to to be our Commissioners, and doe hereby giue vnto you or any twoe or more of you full power and authoritie from time to time to call before you and examine vpon oath, which wee hereby authorize you or any twoe or more of you to administer, on the holy evangelist aswell all such persons as have beene soe robbed & spojled & deprived of their landes Rentes goodes or Chattells as all the witnesses that can giue any testemony therein. What robberies and spoiles have beene committed on them or any other to their knowledge since the xxijth of October last or shall hereafter be comitted on them or any of them: What lands rentes goodes or Chattells any person or persons have since that time beene deprived of by occasion of the Rebellion, what the particulers were or are in landes Rentes goodes or Chattells whereof anie person or persons were or shalbee soe robbed spojled or deprived, to what value, by whome such robberies or spoiles were comitted, what their names are and where they nowe or last dwelt that committed those robberies or spoiles, on what day or night the said robberies or spoiles comitted or to be comitted were done, what trecherous and disloyall wordes speeches or actions were then or at anie other time vttered or Committed by those Robbers or any of them And what vnfitting words or speeches concerning the presente Rebellion or by occasion thereof were spoken at any time by anie person or persons whatsoever, what violence or other [omitted: lewd Actions were then performed by the said Robbers]

or any of them and howe often, And what number of persons have beene murthered by the Rebells or perished afterwardes in the way to Dublin or other places where they fledd or retyred for refuge either by the way of defence or otherwise: what person or persons Clergie men or other protestantes have become papistes since the said xxijth daie of October last, and all other Circumstances touching or concerning the said particulers and every of them either before the xxiijth of October or sithence And for the better performance of this service all Incumbentes Curates parrish Clarkes & Sextons of Churches in this Kingdome are hereby required to give into you our said Commissioners to the best of their knowledge the names and numbers of poore soe spojled whoe have beene buried in their respective parrishes And hereafter in and about Dublin they are to giue in weekely bills vnder the handes of the minister or Churchwardens of such parrishes of such of the said persons as shalbe soe buried in the said parrishes And you our said Commissioners or any twoe or more of you as aforesaid are to reduce to writing all thexaminacions which you or any twoe or more of you shall take as aforesaid, and the same to returne vnto our Justices & Counsell of this our realme of Ireland vnder the handes and seales of you or any twoe or more of you as aforesaid Witnesse our right trustie & welbeloved Counsellors Sir William Parsons knight and Barronet & Sir John Burlase knight our Justics of our Realme of Ireland at Dublin the xx xviijth daie of January in the xvijth yere of our Raigne
