Charles by the grace of God Kinge of England Scotland ffrance & Ireland defendor of the faith &c, To our welbeloved Henry Jones, deane of Killmore Roger Puttocke William Hitchcocke, Randall Adams, John Sterne, William Aldrich Henry Brereton and John Watson Clerkes Greeteing Whereas diverse wicked and disloyall people have lately risen in Armes in seuerall partes of this kingdome and haue robbed and spoyled many of our good Subiects Brittish and protestants, who haue beine separated from their settled habitacions & scattered in most lamentable manner and many others haue beine deprived of their Landes rents goodes and Chattles And forasmuch as it is needefull to take due examinacion concerninge the same. Know yee that wee reposeinge especiall trust and Confidence in your fidellities care and provident circumspeccion haue nominated and appointed you to be our Commissioners and doe hereby give vnto you or any two or more of you full power and authoritie from tyme to tyme to call before you and examine vpon oath which wee hereby authorize you or any two or more of you to administer on the holy Evangelist) aswell all such persons as haue beine soe robbed and spoyled or deprived of their Landes rents goods and Chattles as all the witnesses that can give testimony therein what robberies and spoyles haue beine Comitted on them or any other to their knowledge since the two and twentieth of October last or shall hereafter be Comitted on

on them or any of them other what landes rents goods or Chattles any person or persons hath since that tyme beine deprived of by occasion of this present Rebellion, what the particulars were or are in landes rents goodes or Chattles whereof any person or persons were or shalbe soe robbed spoyled or deprived were comitted, what their [values ] are to what value, by whom such robberies or spoyles were committed what their names are, and where they now or last dwelled that comitted those robberies or spoyles, on what day or night the said robberies or spoyles comitted or to be comitted were done, what trayterous or disloyall wordes speeches or actions were then or at any other tyme vttered or Comitted by those robbers or any of them, And fo what vnfittinge speeches or wordes concerninge the presente rebellion or by occasion thereof were spoken at any tyme by any person or persons whatsoever what violence or other lewd actions were then performed by the said robbers or any of them and how often what numbers of persons haue beine murthered by the Rebells or perished afterwards in the way to Dublin or other places whether they fledd or retired for refuge either by way of defence or otherwise what person or persons Clergimen or other protestants have become protestants papists since the said xxijth of October last and all other circumstances and thinges touchinge and concerninge the said particulars and every of them either before the 23th of October last or sithence And for the better performance of this service all Incumbents Curates & parish Clerks and Sextons of Churches in this kingdome are hereby required to give into you our said Commissioners to the best of their knowledge the names & numbers of the poore so spoyled who haue beine buried in their respective parishes And hereafter in and about Dublin [ ] they are to give in weekely Bills vnder

vnder the handes of their Ministers or Church wardens of such parishes of such of the said persons as shalbee soe buried in their respective parishes and hereafter in and about Dublin you our said Commissioners or any two or more of you as aforesaid are to reduce to writeinge all the exminacions which you or any two or more of you shall take as aforesaid and the same to returne vnto our Justices and Councell of this our Realme of Ireland vnder the handes and seales of you or any two or more of you as aforesaid Witnes our right trusty and welbeloued Counsellors Sir William Parsons knight and Baronett and Sir John Borlase knight our Justices of our Realme of Ireland at Dublin the Eighteenth day of January in the seaventeenth yeare of our Raigne
