<Exr 83> John Bartlett the elder of the Cittie of Dublin gent, sworne and examined deposeth and sayth That since the begining of the present Rebellion That is to say about Candlemas 1641: hee this deponent was at the Ringes end, on the lord of Meryongs lande forceibly deprived & robbed of Cowes worth ffowrscore & Sixteene pownds ster, which Cowes were soe taken away in the morning by the Rebells vnknowne to him this Deponent, and by them driven closse by the gates of Meryong howse in view of the Souldiers there, Whoe never offered, (thoughe they might have don it) to stay or rescue them, But said that the lord of Meryong would not suffer them to shoote at those Rebells, becawse his Ladie was sick: And further saith That by occasion and meanes of the presente rebellion, hee this deponent was robbed at Sea above twoe yeres since of soe many barrells of herrings as were worth CCl li. by some men of warr whose names he cannott tell, And alsoe saith That since the begining of the present Rebellion, & by meanes thereof, he hath lost, & bin dampnified by his losse of the Rents and proffitts of howses grounds mills, fishyardes gardens and other thinges, the value or summ of Cl li. per Annum, which in fowre yeres amounteth to the summe of six hundred Pownd s ster & in due debts C li. at least, & of a boate worth xxx li., and of fish of his taken in Mr Carpenters shipp by the rebellious pirats of Wexford, worth x li., & of another boate worth v li. besides his charge of loane money Cesse, presse, & other imposition s amounting to Cl li. at least, And becawse by the losses aforesaid, the deponent was deprived of his stock, hee hath lost the benefite of his tradeing & profession, to his present losse (for twoe yeres) of CC li., And he is like to loose the future proffitts thereof worth 100 li. per annum, & of his howses, mills, & other meanes worth Cl li. per annum as aforesaid vntill that a peace shalbe established & shall bring them to their former value: Soe as the deponent known present
