The examination of Patrick mcCaherye borne at Clownis the County of Monahan taken before vs Sir Sa: Mayart knight &c & Hugh Cressy esquire this 4th of Nou: 1641.
<E> Who beinge examined saith that the theis 4 yeares last past or therabouts he liued in the County of Kildare at Clowningor in Breminghams Country with one John Ash Hue o Quiglye & that the last yeare he went into the North of Ireland wher he serued as a soldier vnder Sir John Gifford, after which the soldiers were disbanded he came to Brimighams Country where he liued with the said Hue o quiglye til after May last euer since vntil yesterday fortnight beinge wedensday he went to Castle Jurdan to speake with Sir John Gifford who beinge not at home he came the same day back to Balliagan 2 miles on this side Castleiurdan to a house of one of the Walshes & that ther was only in his company one William Moore who dwells in the towne of Clownis (who hath no trade vnles it be sellinge of drinke, & [ ] whome this examinate met by chance at Castleiurdan, & that the next day being thursday this examinant & the said Moore & no other with them came to Kilcock where they lay at a tanners house whose name he knoweth not & none was ther <F> but the people of the house, & from thence on fryday they both alone came to Dublin, wher they lay at Dermot Moores house in Cooke streete wher ther were some company but how many he knoweth not only he saw 2 men ther. where he stayed vntil he was apprehended on saterday, he further saith that the cause of his cominge to towne was that ther were diuers Captaynes to goe beyond seas as he heard & therfore came to towne to get some preferment [ ] amongst them & that he was aduised therto in summer last by Sir John Gifford, & that he knoweth none that were to come to towne about that time eyther out of the North or any other part of Ireland & that the said william Moore is comitted likewise with this examinant to Newgate
