The Examinacion of John Murfey taken before mee the 14th of January 1641 by direccion of the right honorable the Lords Justices and Councell;
The said Murfey beeing sworne and examined saith that beeing at the towne of New Castle in the County of Dublin the thirteenth of this present hee there saw in the Rebells Armie Roger Moore Lysagh Moore Nicho l Sutton of Tipper Piers Fitz=Gerrald of Ballyshenon Hugh Birn All which persons were are called Collonells And Mr Patrick Scurlock of Recredan and two sons of his who were called Captens Richard fitz=Gerrald of Ould Towne Stewart to Sir Nicholas White another Capten and one Mr Fitz=Gerrald of Duneny called likewise a Capten And that vnder the Comand of the said Collonells and Captens there were a great multitude of Comon soldiers estimated by those that spoke of the least to bee five thousand <this note comes in heere> And the said rebells said that they expected that Eustace of Castellmartin and others with more forces would bee with them this day And further saith that this morning by breake of day an Allarum being given vnto the said Rebells of Sir Charles Coots coming towards them the said rebells marched from Newcastle to Sagart to meete the said Sir Charles And the examjnant likewise saith that the said Rebells had this last night scouts of theirs placed, as neere vnto this Cittie as the foord of Drumnagh And that the said Rebells reported they were coming vnto the seege of this Cittie
