The Examination of Teige Kellie taken before mee the xixth day of January 1641 By directions from the right honnorable the Lords Justices & Councell
Who beeing sworne & Examined saith, that hee this Examinant beeing sent by his Captaine Sir John Shirlock the xiiith of this present vnto Sutton of Tipper att Newcastle to haue his the said Suttons passe to carry a Letter directed by the said Sir John vnto his ffather Mr Christopher Shirlock neare vnto the Naase Hee this Examinant was apprehended by certaine Souldiers of one Captaine Donell before hee came att the said Towne of Newcastle, which Souldiers conveyed this Examinant as prisoner vnto the Church of Newcastle where the Rebells Court of Guard was kept and there whilest hee was in searching the said Collonell Sutton came and receiued from him this Examinant the said Letters: And this Examinant was therevpon kept in Boltes for fiue daies And euery day appointed to bee hanged But att length this Examinant made an escape in the dark of the night And further this Examinant saith that att his be{eing} soe in the Rebells handes hee there saw the Captai{ns} & Collonells following namelie Roger Moore Collonell Collonel{l} Luke Toole Collonell Sutton of Tipper Collonell Talbott Collonell ffitz Garrett of Ballysonan Collonell Mawrice Eustace

of Castle Martin Collonell Hugh McPhelim Collonell & Lisagh Moore Collonell Captaine Owgan two sonnes of Mr Patrick Scurlocks of Rathcredon Captaines, Captaine Daniell Lisagh Dempsy Captaine And further saith that the said Patrick Scurlock father to the said Captaines Scurlocks was there alsoe present & did speake much against this Examinant and wished that hee might bee hanged aswell as some of theires were by the kings Souldiers And alsoe saith that on Sundaie last in the after noone some of the said Collonells and Captaines parted companie Roger Moore and Collonell ffitzGarratt with Captaine Danyell and as was said with ffiue hundred men went towards Drogheda which men were formerlie quartered att Sagard & Rathcoole Collonell Talbott & his men which were reported to bee ffoure hundred quartered att Galgonston Captaine Owgan & both the Scurlocks & Dempsie with theire men remaine att Newcastle And Collonell Eustace went into the Countie of Kildare Luke Toole vnto Corballis and from thence vnto the three Castle, And the sayd Examinet sayth that at the present there are noe companies quartered at Rathcoole or Sagard those companies beinge remoued) on Sunday to & hedd towards Drogheda
