The Examination of John Pue Esquire taken the 21 of September 1642 Before mee Sir Robert Meredith knight Chancellour of his Maiesties Court of Exchequer & one of his Maiesties Justices of the Peace for the Countie of Dublin.Who beeing sworne & Examined saith that about a fortnight since as neare as hee can remember Leivtennant Edward Loftus and Mr Adam Beaghan of St Nicholas Streete beeing in talke together att his this Examinants door in the said Streete concerning the Parliament in England and of newes from thence the said Adam said that all the Parliament of England were Traitors whereat the said Leiutennant Loftus was displeased and rebuked the said Adam for speakeing the said wordes & therevpon the said Adam said that itt was lawfull for him to call them Traitors for that the king called them soe by his proclamation and n therevpon the said Leiftennant Loftus told him that hee would not leaue of talkeing vntill his short neck were stretched three inches longer to whom the said Adam made answeare that hee hoped to see them all hanged for it first. And further cannot depose.
