The Examination of John mc Connell, taken the xxiiiith daie of June 1642, Before mee Chancellor of his Maiesties Court of Exchequer {By} direction of the right honnorable the Lordes Justices & Councell.
Who beeing sworne & Examined saith, that hee this Examinant beeing one of the Companie, ledd from Newcastle vnto vnto Kildrought on the xvith of this present June, vnder the command of his Leivtennant Edward Griffith. And beeing placed by his said Leivtennant, a Sentinell, to stand neare vnto Castle Towne, the house of Sir John Dungan knight he then saw enter into the said Sir Johns house, three horsemen & three ffootmen, Musketteires. And att another tyme soone after the same daye hee this Examinant likwise saw the said three horsem{en} & the three Musketteirs, come towards his this Examinants Leivtennant & his Companie, against whom the said three Musketteirs or some of them gaue fire. Which beeing done the said Musketteirs retreated, & hee this Examinant saw them goe into the house of Sir John Dungan aforesaid. And this Examinant

further saith, that one of the said Horsemen (then in a white Sattin Dublett) rode vpon a white horse, which said horse hee this Examinant saw (as hee verilie beleiues) vnder Sir John Dungan the Sundaie before: Att which tyme the said Sir John & his Ladie desired this Examinants Captaine, Captaine Gascoigne to dine with him att his said house which his said Captaine refused to doe.
