Thomas Enos 4th of June 1642 sworne & examined
sayth that the next daye after the burneing of the Towne of Kildare He was there present and sawe the Earle of Kildare Castle- Haven in the sayd Towne & harde his lordship speake. vnto certayne of the Inhabitants of the sayd Towne whoe were Rebells that they had done well to burne the & Castle called the Earles Castle & that they did very ill in that they had not burnte the churche for f sayde if the sa me church & other the Castles of the sayd Towne were not throughly burnte there would bee a
Garrison of the Engelishe placed there in them wherevpon the very next daye the sayd inhabitants bestowed much labour in gathe{r}inge of strawe: & other stuff which they sett into the sayd Church purposelie to burne the same & the examinat sayth that the sayd Earle was then accompanied with his preest an engelishe man & one man more
