The Examinacion of James o Mayrie aged 22 years or therabouts taken the day & year abouewritten:
This Examinant being duely sworne & examined saith that he knoweth that <B> ther was an English man (whose name he knoweth not, who was a la y lame man & vnder noe comaund taken about a fortnight since att Brittas in the howse of one James Cody, by William ffogertyne Edmond Roshonan William Hanraghan, William Beolan, and him this examinant, who then & ther tooke the said Englishman out of the said Codys howse & carried him beyond Lissonlee a muskett shott and ther murthered him Being demaunded how he did know that the said English man was then in Brittas aforesaid he saith that Peirce Clenton & Richard Conley 2 soldiers that run from Capt Cyprian Grace, did giue them notice that such an English man (who was as they said a spie & gaue Intelligence to the English forces) was then in Brittas whervpon the abouenamed persons being neer Oldtowne a myle & half from

Brittas came to the said towne, in the night and entring into the said towne came <C> to the howse of James Cody aforesaid who was then standing att his door, and enquiring who was within, the said Cody told them that ther was an poor ma n Englishman who was a layman, whervpon the persons abouenamed entred & seised vpon the said Englishman & carried him to the place aforesaid, wher he was killed by Edmond Roshanan & William Hanrighan: Being demaunded what armes they had when they came to the said towne, and how many in number he saith they were about 12, and that they were armed with some musketts & swords: Being demaunded whither the Inhabitants of Brittas aforesaid did rayse any force & gather together to attempt to rescue the said English man from them, he saith they did not, but they raysed the Cry: and further saith that the said English man was buried wher he was murthered & further saith not. Being further what officer was with them & comaunded them when they had the first Intelligence of the said Englishman being in Brittas he saith Ensign Thomas Grace, who came with them n ere to the towne of Brittas but did not enter <D> into the towne with them, and that the said Ensigne was present when he was murthered but whither he gaue orders for the killing of the said Englishman or not, he doth not know & further saith not,
