Plunket one Mr Wall of Roughlin with about 40 or 50 in his companie mett att the said Mr Harpooles house from whence they went vnto Mr Thomas Ovingtons then high Sheriffe of the Queenes Countie who ioyned with them, & they altogether went vnto the seidge of the said Greames att Ballilinnon where likewise there were sundry of the Brennons from Edough who were drawne thither by the solicitation of the said Mr. Harpoole But the said parties not beeing able to prevaile against the said Greames they robd him of all his Cattle and soe raised the seidge & soe disperst euery one to theire owne homes But soone after the Lord Mountgarrat & sundry others of the rebells comeing towards Athy there to Encounter the kings Army the said Mr Harpoole with his eldest sonne one Mr ffrancis Loftus brother vnto Sir Dudley Loftus John Ovington of Killeban & three of the said Ovingtons brothers ioyned with the said Lord Mountgarratt and was with him att the battaile neare killrush where the said Mr Harpoole lost 3 of his horsemen And this Examinant further saith that annother brother of the said Sir Dudleyes called Edw: Loftus ioynes with the said Mr Harpoole in his rebellious courses and is very actiue therein And imployes his stock and mony in buying and prouideing munition & other requisits to further this rebellion And saith that since the defeat att Killrush the said Mr Harpoole & the said Mr Edw: Loftus went vnto Wexford where

they mett with Hugh mcPhelim now Leivtennant Gennerall vnder the Lord Mountgarrat And att the said Towne of Wexford the said Mr Harpoole and Mr Loftus bought 20 li. of powder which cost them 5 li. & 4 Musketts or Calleivers And att the same tyme the said parties deliuered vnto Hugh McPhelim 10 li. more which hee the said Hugh McPhelim promised to lay out for them in Powder And this Examinant further sayth that soone after the said Mr Harpoole sent his servant one Owen ffarrall with ffortie poundes more vnto Gallwaie there to buy Powder att which tyme there alsoe went from Peirce ffitzGarrat of Ballisonen one Lawrance Goghegan a cheife or head of Guardian of the ffryers now att Castledermot with 100 li. to bee laid out there att Gallwaie likewise for powder And after this Examinant parted from the said Mr Harpooles house hee this Examinant vnderstood by relation of annother that the said ffarrall servant to Mr Harpoole had brought from Gallwaie vnto his said Master 2 barrells of Powder And saith that hee beeing seruant to the said Mr Harpoole for these 3 yeares last past was notwithstanding in much danger of his life because hee would not alter his religion & goe to Masse & that the said Mr Harpooles second sonne Will: Harpoole did often moue his ffather to hang this Examinant And this Examinant saith that the said Will: Harpoole is very feirce and cruell in killing of the English. And likewise saith that the said Goghegan Guardian to the said ffriers is a most buisie man in setting forward the present Rebellion & hath heard sundrie of the said Rebells afirme that they beleiued the said Geoghagan was privy to the first plotting of the said present Rebellion
