The Examination of Patrick Dillon of Dublin Merchant, taken before mee Sir Robert Meredith knight, Chancellor of his Maiesties Court of Exchequer, the xxviiith day of March 1642 in his Maiesties behalfe as followeth vizt.
This Examinant beeing duelie examined & sworne vpon the holie Evangelist, saith, that about two monthes past or thereabouts this Examinant and one Patrick Read of Dublin Merchant, obteyned a warrant from the right honnorable Sir William Parsons knight & Barronet & one of his Maiesties Lordes Justices, to goe into the Countrie, to bring in Corne into this Cyttie. By vertue of which warrant this Examinant went into the Countrie to buy Corne, and within ffoure miles of this Cyttie was taken by the Irish Rebells, and by them taken to theire Camp held att Ballmakarnan and from thence taken to killsalchan, where Collonell McHugh McPhelim Birne, and others, Collonells, kept Camp, and amongst them remained prisoner three weekes, and by them sentence of Death giuen against this <x> Examinant: And after by them was sent to Trim as prisoner with others, conveyed from Cunstable to Cunstable, till hee was laid in the Goale of Trim, with ffetters of Iron on him, and there remained for the space of a ffortnight or thereabouts, vntill such tyme as the kinges Armie went to Killin or thereabouts and burnt Killin, att which tyme the Rebells and others of the Townesmen Running awaie, this Examinant and the rest of the Prisoners, broke Goale, and soe made an escape & came to this Cyttie

And this Examinant saith, that dureing the tyme whilest hee was att Killsalchan, hee saw in open Rebellion, the Earle of <*> ffingall, the Lord of Gormanston, Collonell Hugh Birne, Collonell Lisagh Moore, Collonell Garratt Talbott, Collonell ffitz-Garrald, and Collonell Pluncket brother to the Earle of ffingall, Phillipp Hore of Killsalchan, and Collonell Luke Netterfeild, Captaine Dungan, Mr Blacknie of Rinkinhore, Patrick Sedgraue of Killeglon, Patrick Barwall of Kilbrew, Mr Barnwall of Lispople, Mr Patrick Cusack of Gerastowne, John ffinglas of Portrarem, Edward Brimingham of Colemine, Captaine Christopher Barnwall, Captaine James Barnwall, Captaine Andrew Barnwall, Captaine Thomas Russell of Brownestowne, Mr Balfe of ffydath, Robert Birford of Ratoth, Patrick Kilsagh of the same, William, Robert, & Peter Bath, Brothers to James Bath of Athcarne, James ffottrell of ffeildstowne, Mr Clement Garratt & his sonne, all those with diuerse others this Examinant saith, that hee saw <x> in open Rebellion in the Towne of Kilsalchan. And this Examinant further saith, that when hee was a Prisoner in the Towne of Trim, hee saw Mr Christopher Nugent, Brother to Sir Thomas Nugent, accompanied with Mr Wesley of the Dungan, & Captaine Cusack of Trim, and Leivtennant Harry might of the same, Christopher Quin, sonne to John Quin of Dublin Merchant with diuerse others, & there the said Christopher Nugent saith to the said Mr Wesley & others, that hee had ffiue thousand ffootmen & two hundred horsemen gathered, and would bring them along to Chappell Isold, & there pitch his Camp with them against the Kings fforces.
