This examinant further saith that such was theeir [ ] hatred of the Irish of the County of Mayo vnto the English that they could not endure to see a beast of English breed to live amongst them, and not onely content to destroy the Cattle, but with all derision and scoffing carriage vsed to bring a booke before the Cowe or sheepe of English straine they formerly tooke from the English, and asked them whether they could reade, and in case they were disposed at that tyme to spare the killing of them, one answered they could read and bidd their apparances should bee entred, and if otherwise disposed to kill them, in conclusion they left not a beast liveing that they tooke from English or Protestant
