The Examinacion of Hubert Pettitt ta{ken } before me the 19th day of ffebruary by direccion of the Right Honorable the Lords Justices and Councell
Who being sworne and examined with that at h{is} this Examinants comming from the County of Westmea{th} which was upon the 17th of this present ffebruary ther{e} were of the Gentlemen of the said County in Rebellio{n} these following, Vizt Walter Nugent of Rathaspec{ } Robert Nugent of Cooilingstowne, Robert Nugent so{n} unto James Nugent of Drumcree who keepes wit{h} his father, Mathew Ledwitch of Ballinelach, Roger Darcy of Lisnelin, Nangle of Ballinconkey, Richard Dalton of Dralensowne, Oliuer oge o Brynan all the McLaughlins and mcGawneyes, Garrett mcGarratt Geoghegan, Richard Ledwitch of Cappagh, James Nuge{nt} of Coleamber, Edmond Tirrell son unto Richard Tir{rell} of Kilbride made a Collonell & lately come out of the lo{we} Countries, Thomas Tirrell son vnto Capten Tirrell the said Captain is reported to be carried in a Lesh u{nto} the Seidge of Borne with sundry of the Rebells, and likewise saith that in Christmas hollydaies last h{e} this Examinant saw a Letter directed form the Lor{ds} of the Pale to witt, the Lord of ffingall, the Lord Gormanstown, the Lord of Slaine, the Lord of Dunsany, the Lord of Trimlestowne & the Lord of Lowth vnto the right honorable the Earle of Westmeath and the rest of the Lords & Gentr{y} of the Counties of Westmeath and Longford, th{e} contents of which Letter was that they the sai{d}

of the Pale expected from his Lordshipp and the Gentlemen of Westmeath a thousand men to come unto the said seidge of Drogheda, and that if those thousand men had not been delayed they had taken the towne of Drogheda before that time, which Letter was brought by one ffather George Dillon, a ffranciscan ffryer, Vncle unto the Lord of Costellagh and the said ffryer haueing shewed the said Letter unto the Earle of Westmeath and receiveing his deniall of the demand for his particular the said ffryer tooke the Letter, & went therewith as this Examinant conceived to solicit the rest of the said County and further saith that as he this Examinant vnderstood, on the 11th of this instant ffebruary Mulmurrey รด Rely, Robert Nugent fitz James of Drumcre with about twenty or thirty in their Company in violent manner rushed into the house and lodgeing Chamber of the said Earle and there the said parties would haue had a speech with the said Earle, but his Lordshipp not induring the same with discontent fell into so great a passion & fitt as his Lordshipp hath been ever since driven to keep his bedd, and this Examinant further saith that on the 17th of this present, it was reported by Mr John Hopp unto the Earl of Westmeath that Mr James Cusacke of the Kings Councell for the defective titles and Mr Nicholas Darcy of Plattin were to be sent into the said County of Westmeath to make Inquiry what persons within the said County of Westmeath would not joyne in giveing assistance unto the Lords and Gentlemen now in Rebellion to the end that thereupon some seuere course might be taken with such as so refused
