<Cop[ ]> Edmund Manwaring of Killeneeney in the County gent sworne and examined deposeth & sayth That in the begining of the Rebellion in those parts vizt about the xviijth of December 1641, This deponent was by his landlord <A> Patrick Morgan of the Snatie in the same County gent Donnell Mc Nemarra of the Downe in the same Countie Esquire Patrick Chockson of of Keeleagnrteen in the same County gent, Teige mc Nemarrah of Ballywire in the same County gent, Connor ô Daly of Laghe in the same County gent Connor ô Brian of Ballimacashell in the same County gent, Richard White of Ibrickan in the same County gent & their Rebellious servants deprived and dispoiled of his Corne, Cattell, howshold stuff, horses & other goods & chattells worth CCxxxix li. sterling And that one Dermott <B> ô Brian of Drumnore in the said Countie of Clare Esquire Cozen to the Erle of Thomond & one Donogh mc Nemarra of Cratlaghe in the said County of Clare robbed & deprived this Deponent at the Castle of Limrick (as hee passed to Bunrattie of other his goodes worth xxx li. & of all his writeings, And that James Lenchy (a popish preist) expelled this deponent his howse (whereof he hath a leas for 30 yeres to come) worth 5 li. per Annum, Of which he hath already lost twoe yeres proffitt worth x li., And the said Teige mc Donnell mc Nemarrah alsoe forceibly expelled him from half a plow land in Tiraney in the same County which he held in leas and morgage worth clerely vj li. per Annum, Whereof he hath now alsoe lost, twoe yeres proffitts & above, amounting to above xij li. sterling, And he is like to be deprived of the future proffitts of his said howse and land worth clerely xj li. per Annum, vntill a peace be established, And further saith that <C> one Donogh mc Donnell of Ballykelly in the same County yeoman & Knogher ô Chowne of Killegurteene in the same County of Clare husbandman & some other Rebells forceibly robbed the deponent of sheepe worth 5 li. <#> And this deponent further saith that in the begining of the present Rebellion in the County of Clare, the said Erle of Thomond (as he pretended for the

<D> the good of the County) made and appointed divers of his owne kinred vizt Dermott ô Brian of Dunmore aforesaid Esquire & Connor ô Brian of Ballymacoodogh in the same Countie Esquire & Donogh mc Nemarrah of Clarklagh in the same County Esquire Teige mc Donnell Reagh mc Nemarrah of Towartie in the same County of Clare Esquire & others (all Irish papistes) to be Captains & Comanders within that Countie, & to muster & levy vpp men within the same; And assessed & ordered all the English & Irish Inhabitants there to beare & pay seven shillinges for every plow Land in that County to those Captaines & souldiers, which was paid by those English in those parts for twoe months together, And then all those Captaines & their souldiers fell into open Rebellion & robbed & deprived the most of the English in that Countie of all their goods (as this Deponent hath bin Credibly told, & beleeveth ) killed a great number of them & (amongst others) they murthered one Peter Ward of Trumroe in the same County gent & his wife, & one of their sonns, & robbed & deprived them of goods & meanes worth at least 700 li., And although the said <E> Erle of Thomond was still suffered to enioy all his meanes, yet those Rebells at length seemed not to care for him; And further saith that the Comanders soe appointed by the said Erle of Thomond tooke away all the English Armes, and tooke from them about 17n or Eighteene Castles, And whereas at the first about 400 of English & Dutch men offered to take vpp Armes, & to defend them <f> selves, their Castles, howses & goodes & the Cuntrie as farr as they were able, yet the said Erle of Thomond would not suffer them soe to doe, but said that Course would further provoake & insense the Irish to angar then otherwise, And soe the said Erle appointed & gave the rule of the whole Cuntry to those Captaines & Comanders as aforesaid, Whom at first he Comanded himself, But after they seemed not to care for nor be Comanded by him
