The Examinacion of Katherin Cary wife to Edward Cary of Templeoge in the Count{y} of Dublin Carpenter aged thirttie yeares or there aboutes taken the 10th of feb 1652
who being duely sworne and Examined saith that in or about the month of August 1643 oliuer Ashpoole of then Trooper of the Irish partie tould this examjnant that hee with others tooke William Beaton prisoner [ ] at the neere Baggotts=rath hee beeing then of the English partie and thence carryed him to B Great Bray where the Irish campe then was, Shee saith that the said Ashpoole tould this examjnant that the said Beaton had quarter of life giuen him when hee was soe taken prisoner, and that after hee had beene a while in the said Campe James Goodman the elder of Laghlinstowne came in and seeing the said Beaton the said Beaton came to the said Goodman and calling him Landlord said I hope Landlord you will giue mee good quarter as the rest haue done the to which the said Goodman answeared, and swore by the sacrament

sacrament that hee would giue him fowre quarters meaneing hee should die & that hee the said Goodman would neuer sleepe at Laughlinstowne vntill hee the said Beaton were hanged, and that accordingly the <B> said Beaton was that night hanged in the said Ashpooles sight by the said Goodmans direccion and in his presence notwithstanding that the said Beaton did offer forty poundes for his ransome, Shee saith that the said Ashpoole tould this examjnant that Hugh mc Phelym Byrne who then comanded the Irish partie at Bray aforesaid would said that hee would not for a hundred pound haue hanged the said Beaton hanged hee in regard hee had quarter giuen him,
Shee saith that whe the said Ashpoole tould the seuerall particulars before mencioned to this examjnant at Balligarny where shee then liued about three dajes after the said Beaton was hanged as aforesaid, Shee saith that the said Ashpoole did then weare a broadcloth Cassacke bound with siluer lace which shee formerly had seene the said Beaton weare in Dublin and knew did belong to him, And further shee cannott depose,
