The further and additionall Examinacion of Gyles Broome of Dublin soldier aged lxxv [ tie ] yeares or therebouts taken the viijth daye of October 1652 before vs Sir Gerrard Lowther knight Sir Edward Bolton knight and Thomas Dongan Esquire Comissioners for Administracion of Justice Oyer Terminer and Gaole delivery &c
The said Giles Broome beinge duly sworne and further Examined saith that a Minister whose name as he remembers was Mr Owens Jones a Minister with this Examinante and many other English were in Mr Joab wards Castle at Knockrath when the said Castle was taken in by the Irish Rebells in the first yeare of this Rebellion and saith that duringe the said Mr Jones Owens his staye in the saide Castle after it was surrendred vpon quarter, he was faine to hyde himselfe least the Irish should take notice of him & soe demand and take him away as they did three other Englishmen, and saith that when all the English were to departe and leave the saide Castle they fearinge that if the said Mr Jones Owens should goe away publiquely he might be in some danger to be stayde & taken & hanged by the Irish beinge a Minister they did therefore Convay the said Mr Owens Jones out of the said Castle by night; And this Examinant further saith that he afterwards meetinge the said Jones Mr Owens in dublin; he the said Owens Jones there tould this Examinant that after he had left the said Castle of Knockrath by night as aforesaid and intended to come straight to Dublin he was by the waye intercepted and taken prisoner by Luke Toole Esquire and by him Carryed to PowersCourt and there for som tyme by the said Luke Toole kept prisoner and that duringe his beinge there a prisoner, he was severall tymes by the said Luke Toole threatened to be hanged, and saith that by the said Luke Tooles Comand he had the rope put severall tymes about his neck to be hanged as the said Jones Owens allsoe tould this Examinant, and further saith that the said Jones Owens had beene hanged as the said mr Jones Owens tould this Examinant in dublin; but for that one begged the said Jones Owens his life of the said Toole as the said Jones Owens allsoe tould this Examinant and further saith not more then he hath said in his former Examinacions.
