The Examinacion of Griffin Kavanogh of Dunfort in the County of Kilkeny gent aged 64 or therabouts taken the 19th day of August 1652
The said Examinant sworne & duly examined, saith, that he lived att Newtowne in the County of Catherlogh within a mile & a half of the Graige, att the beginning of the Rebellion that he lyved ther 15 or 16 years, and continued ther till within 4 years agoe or therabouts: Being demanded if he did know John Stone & the rest of the English lyving in the Graig, and ben he saith he did know them being asked what became of them, he saith that they were taken and carried away from thence towards <A> Ross by orders as he hath heard, and that by the way they were hanged, being demaunded by what Orders t [ ] hey were carried away he saith that by the generall report of the country it was by orders from Collonell Walter Bagnall then Governor of Cath the County of Catherlogh, and that particularly he was told it by the Inhabitants of Graige; and that they were ordered to be sent to Richard ffittzharrys of Culbeck Marshall for t he County to be executed
Being demaunded what he heard of the English taken att Laughlyn he saith that he being from home his wife when he retorned told him that ther was diuers English prisoners passed by the howse who were convoyed from Laughlyn by Collonell Bagnalls men, and that shee gaue them some victualls, an{d} saw amongst the rest ther was one Coles wife { } being demanded by what orders he saith he { } knoweth not, vnles it were by Collonell Bagna{lls} they being his men that convoyd them: further {saith not}
