Robert Welsh of Killeny in the County of Kilkenny gent one of the Dragooners in Collonell Axtells troope sworne & examined deposeth & saith That on or about the xvijth of March 1645 Adam Tobin now of Garron Gibbon in <A> the Countie of Tippary gent James ffurlong of Ardmeath in the County of Wexford, & Walter ffurlong of Ardmeath aforesaid his brother & Valentine Cockley of in the said County of Wexford, somtime a Trooper to Captaine Scurlock, came into this Examinants fathers howse in Killeny aforesaid And being all of them armed with swordes or rapiers & the said Cockley with a pistoll alsoe, the Examinants father M (by name Mathew Welsh) being at dinner, desired them to sitt downe with him & dyne They said they would not becawse there was noe fish (it being on a ffriday) but they sate downe & dranck, Then they told this Examinantes said father that he must convoy them out of the towne, wherevpon he went out with them & brought them about a Myle out of that towne, and when they came to a foard, they there mett with one Mris Margaret Welsh of Castlehoile in the said County of Kilkenny widow & one Robinett Purcell of Thomastowne in the said County of Kilkenny gent, vpon which this Examinants father desired to take his leave. But Mr Adam Tobyn a forenamed then suddenly with his rapier or sword ran him through his back of which wound he died within a quarter of after an howre after, which was done in the presence of the said Mr garrett Welsh, and alsoe in the presence of the said Robinett Purcell & of one Mr Lawrence Conoway of Garransteine in the said County of Kilkenny & William Brian of Garransteine aforesaid yeoman as they all told & avered to him this Examinant, And although he sawe not the same with his owne eyes yet he is satisfyed of the truth thereof he looseing his father at the same time & fetching him from the place where he was soe murthered buryed him: This deponent further saith that he hath bin told <B> by one John Butler of Carrohill in the County of Kilkenny gent & David Butler of the same gent, That Margery Butler of Corrohill aforesaid widow instigated & perswaded the said Adam Tobyn (whoe is her brother) to to revenge some mallice she had conceived

vpon & against him the Examinants said father vseing theis words be sure you doe your busines before you come againe. Or els never come to mee againe meaneing the distruction of his said father as they related it to him
