<A> The Examination of Derby mc Owen Brenan of Kiltowne aged 27 years or thereabouts taken the 6th of September 1652
The said Examinate being duely examined saith that he liued in the begining of the Rebellion with his father Owen Brenan at Skehanagh neer Kiltowne and being examined when he hath taken vp armes saith that he was at the siege of Castlecomer but wore noe armes but a swoord but wore noe swoord duing the said siege only an irish darte, and further saith that he knew Mr Carpenter viccar of Ballynikill who had a house at Skehanagh where the Examinant liued as aforesaid but knowes not who plundered him and being examined who stormed the Church of Castlecomer he saith that he knoweth not, and being further demaunded who murthered the English of at Castlecomer he saith that he knoweth not, but that he heard of one English boy that was hanged by Lewes Brenan and being demaunded who plundered the English there he saith that they were plundered by an Armie out of the loe Leinster armie and an Armie out of the Countie of Carloe and being further demaunded who murthered Lewes Dauis he saith that he knewe him well, and that he heard that he was murthered by one James Brenan of Castlecomer butcher now in prison, and being further demaunded who were at the siege of Castlecomer he saith that there was [ were ] Captain Brenan, Captain Purcell, Richard Buter and diuers others then and further saith that he knew Mr Parkinson of Castlecomer and further saith not.
