The Examinacion of Richard Hudson of Dublin Pattrick street Dublin [ ] Oarman aged fortie five yeares or there abouts taken the xxixth daye of October 1652 before vs Sir Gerrard Lowther knight Sir Edward Bolton knight and Thomas Dongan Esquire Commissioners for Administracion of Justice Oyer and Terminer and Gaole delivery &c in and throughout the Province of Leinster except the Counties of Kilkeny & Wexford
The said Richard Hudson beinge duly sworne and Examine{d} saith that a on the xxiijth of October 1641 at the breakeing out of the Rebellion he was dwelling at Kildargin in the Territory of Idough in the County of Kilkenny within twoe myles of CastleComer, and saith that about a mont{h} <A> before Christmas next followinge the same xxiijth daye of October at this examinants howse at the Towne aforesaid a Company of the Rebells to the number of fiftie or ther abouts came & a fell vpon this Examinants howse and Robbed and stripped this Examinant, and saith that Edmond Brenan [ ] late of Ardree in Idough now deceased was Captaine and Cheefe Comander of the said Company and that ffirr mc Donogh o Brennan was one of the Company of the said Rebells, and further saith that one Nicholas ffaning a neighbor of this Examinants livinge with him in the said towne of Kildargen advised this Examinant to goe to Richard Butlers of Cownefealy in Idough and that they went sh to the said towne of Cownefealy and vpon the Sundaye after he this Examinant was plundred, he saw severall of his goods in the said Richard Butlers howse Bawne and further saith that the Cuntry beinge full of the English Rebells this Examinant Run for safty of his life vnto Castle Comer in the said County and there Contynued, and saith that after his Cominge to the said Castle of CastleComer, [ ] The said Edmond Brenan

<B> Brennan who was Captaine being deade one Thomas Butler whoe was sonn Brother to one Richard Butler whoe lived in CastleComer was made Captaine of the Rebells in garrison in the same towne of CastleComer, and comanded the said company, and that dureinge his beinge in comand a yong youth called Richard Barnard beinge sent out of the said Castle vpon som occation into the towne, one Lysagh Brenan on e of the said Captaine Butlers soldiers took the said Barnard and carryed him and hanged him vpon his ffathers tenters till he was deade, his ffather beinge a clothier by his trade the said [ ] yougth beinge hanged vpon the said tenters within viewe of the said Castle, and further saith that an English woman the wife of a Collyer beinge sent with a lettre from some of the Irish to Captaine ffarrer whoe was in the saide Castle was by som of the Irish soldiers shott before the gate of the said Castle and there dyed imediatly dyed of the said shott, And further saith that at about the second weeke of Lent then followinge Quarter being given to those that wer in the said Castle and this Examinant and many other of the English the after quarter given beinge Marching away the said Captaine Thomas <C> Butler with som of his soldiers followed this Examinant & the other English in the reere, in the night tyme and by force tooke from them one Richard Phillipps and one John Shoule
