The Examinacion of Elizabeth Lawles taken befor me the 29th of Aprill 1652
The Examinant being examined vpon her oath what she knoweth concerning the murther of Richard Barnard, sonne vnto Alexander Barnard she deposeth that about Shroues twesday in the year 1641 after that she this deponent being in the towne of Castle Comer, did see lewis <A> Brennan, first strike att the said Richard Barnard being then young about 15 or 16 9 or 10 years of age with his sword drawne, & cutt him first a deep wound vpon his head & presently after ouer his Nose & face whervpon the said Richard fell to the ground and the said Lewis Brennon not being therwith satisfied in pursuance of his bloody & murderout disposacion took{e} of a collar hempen Cord from a grey hownds neck ther present, & therwith (putt vp about the said Richard neck, he draggd the said Richard to his fathers tenter hooks & ther he hanged the said Lewes hanged him the said Richard and being demaunded what she knew, or conceived to be the reason of that bloody & murtherous accion she knoweth noe reason vnles it was because he was of english parents & further saith that the said Richard came out of the Castle of Castle Comer not aboue one <B> howar or therabouts befor he was murthered and further deposeth that the said Lewis Brennan did exceedingly vaunt after he had perpetrated that bloody murther
Being further demaunded, who was present att the tyme of the said murther, she saith ther was many Irish & some English: vizt Joan Condon wife to Mr Garland Hostellor, Ellyn Swift widow dwelling here in Kilken{y} Thomas Murphy, with diuers others:
