Alexander Bradford of Gowran in the County of Kilkeny gent aged 34 years or ther abouts sworne & examined befor vs the day of August 1652 saith as followeth:
The examinant deposeth saith that he is an Englishman borne in oxfordshire & hath lived in this nation a twelmonth befor the last Rebellion in Gowran in the County of Kilkeny, and saith that during his Residence ther that about the month of November Anno 1641, that this examinant coming from the Mill of Gowran which he then kept he <A> mett with Morish Kelly of Gowran aforesaid who suddaynly striking att thi{s} examinant, who demaunding the reason therof, the said Kelly replied, that neither he nor any of his generacion should be lyving within a moneth after that tyme; whervpon he was forced to fly for his owne safety to the Castle of Catherlogh wher he afterwards heard that all the English which stayed behind him being to the number of about 28 persons (as nere as he remembreth) were putt to death in a wood nere Ross, who as was inpretended were to be convoyd from Gowran to Duncanan, & that they were fallen vpon in the way by the Convoy that pretended to convoy them safely all saue 3 persons, vizt, this examinants wife Acton Cole, and Dorothie Bradford this examinants sister, which said A Cole hidd himself in the wood & so escaped & the other 2 were <B> werre stripped & gott away, and saith that Morish Kelly as he heard comaunded the said Convoy, & that he was then Ensigne to Captain Peire Butler; He further saith that as he was informed ther was att the tyme, in the said wood & by the said Convoy then slayne Arthur Scott, James Brumfeld, Erasmus Bradford this examinants father and and <ther> wiues & children as also Christopher Robinson & Thomas White; He further saith that is was generally & credibly reported that Captain Peirs Butler was the chiefe incitor & setter on of the said murther & further saith not
