The said Examinant being duely examined sayth that he there being a Rendezvous on the greene of Tinehinch neere Graig in the County of Catherlagh <A> in the yeare 1642 (but what moneth or day of the moneth hee doth not now remember) hee this Examinant being at Kilkenny was sent for thence to the said Rendezvous, where at his comming hee found Colonell Edmond Butler with his Company, Sir Walter Butler and his Company, Piers Butler this Examinants Captaine and his Company, Captaine Robert Shortall, Captaine Theobald Butler, Captaine James Butler of Tinehinch, with their Companyes, having divers English prisoners with them vppon the place vizt James Bromfeild, Arthur Scott, Ja Erasmus Bradford, and others, to the nomber of about thirteene persons in all men and woeman, And <B> soone the same day the Examinant came thither hee was commanded away by Colonell Edmond Butler (eldest sonne to the lord Mountgarrett) to take about three

<C> files of pikes and musquettiers along with him for a guard, and convoy the said English persons to Rosse and there to deliver them safe to Captaine James Duff, whereuppon hee this Examinant received all the said English prisoners into his custody they being then bound two and two together by the hands & and marched them towards Rosse, but being about a mile on the way from Tinehinch greene aforesaid hee vnbound all the said English, for that they had bin all his neighbors, and hee was willing to shew them kindnesse, and soe they marched all together to Rosse where assoone as they came to the gates this Examinant sent into the said Captaine James Duffe, who was then Governor of Ross, and acquainted him with his Order, whereuppon the said Captaine came to this Examinant to the gate and there received [ in ] the said Order, and prisoners at the hand of this Examinant, who did not observe any vnwillingnes at all in the said Captaine Duff to receive either order or prisoners, And the Examinant further sayth that as soone as he had deliuered the said prisoners as aforesaid hee went into the towne of Rosse to Mr Clerke then Suffran of the towne, and acquainted him with what hee had done, where hee found the said Mr Clerke a prisoner himselfe, and the same night the Examinant returned backe to Gowran, And being demanded whether hee had received any order in

<D> in writing together with of the said prisoners confesseth that hee did receive receive an order in writing signed by the said Colonell Butler, which order hee was for the said Captain Duffs safe convaying the said prisoners to duncannon after hee had received them from this Examinant, which Order this Examinant deliuered with the prisoners to the said Captaine Duffe as before hee hath declared, but denieth that that hee tooke or hath any coppie of the said Order, And being demanded whether hee the said Examinant strucke Alexander Bradford one of the said prisoners and why hee did soe, and whether hee vsed any threatning speches and what speeches to him or any of the rest of the pr is oners denyth Alexander Bradford was ever his prisoner, or strucke by him, or that hee ever vsed any threatning speeches to him or any of the rest, And further sayth that about three days after leaveing the said English at Rosse as aforesaid, hee this Examinant being at another Rendezvous with the said Colonell and Captaines at the Greene of Bennetts bridge, then and there (and not before) hee this Examinant heard that some of the said English were hanged in a wood beyond Rosse, at which newes the said Colonell Butler was very seemed very much displeased And further sayth not.
