Thexaminacion of Katherin Browne of Morton in the County of Kildare in the Barrony of Salt Spinster aged fower & twenty yeares or there= <C> abouts sworne & examined sayeth.
That about the thirteenth daye of December 169 1649: John Browne brother of this deponent was taken prisoner att Ardkill in the Barony Mannor of Carbree in the said County of Kildare by the souldiers of Captain Cooly Governor of Carbree Castle, & carried to the said Castle, wherein he remained prisoner for the space of ten dayes or thereabouts till the comminge home of the said Captain Cooly, whoe the next morninge after, gaue order for the shootinge to death of the said John Browne Capt Cooly, which the souldiers of the said Captaine did accordingly, without callinge any Counsell of warr or Court Marshall, though the said Captain Cooly was much importuned therevnto, which he refused to doe, alledginge that he the said Cooly did soe, because (as he alledged) the said John Browne came there to betraye the Castle to Captain Pakenham, whereas in truth (as this

<D> deponent beleiveth) he came there then as att other tymes to vissitt his mother & his sisters. And further shee sayeth not that the said John Browne att the tyme of his death was an Inhabitant of the Quarters of Trym and noe souldior of either party, And further shee sayeth not.
