The examinacion of Captaine Dudley Colley of Carberrey in the County of Kildarre taken before vs the xxixth day of January 1652. Sir Robert Meredith Knight [ ] Richard Tigh and Edward Pyers Esquires
<A> The examinant Saith, that he did know one John Browne who was sonne in lawe as he conceiueth to one Captaine Barnewell, which said Barne{well} was taken prisoner att the battle of Rathmines and this examinant {had} the Command of the remnant of the Company that were togeather {and} had escaped from Rathmines and other places by orders from the Lor{ds of} Ormond and Inchiquine and the sayd John Browne as this examinan{t} saith, assumed to himselfe, the place and Command of Lt to the Compa{ny} by directions from his sayd father in lawe then prisoner in dublin and did exer{cise} the same and went abroad from tyme to tyme with seuerall parties from {this} examinants Garrison where the sayd Browne did liue togeather with his mother and sisters and did bring in the Contribucion and preys for the m{ain}tenance of himselfe the sayd Company and Garrison from the Parlim{ent} Quarters of Trim and other places, And this examinant further sayth {that} the sayd John Browne was apprehended by this examinants Ensigne & ke{pt} in the sayd Garrison as prisoner in this examinants absence being th{en} with the Lord of Ormond att Kilkenny and being further examined wherefore he gaue orders for the execution of the sayd Browne he sa{yth} that he did it by orders from the Marquisse of Ormand being his Gen{ } which orders he is ready to produce and further sayth not
